![]() Croft, despite her five-year affair with gaming geeks such as myself, that's a little bit of an incentive, anyway.įor the costume freaks, you're going to like this game A LOT, because Lara is back with new fine looking threads (although frankly, she looks good in pretty much ANYTHING). Since there isn't much actual information about Ms. Each of the four scenarios from the past fills in curious gamers with more details about Lara's life and provide new information on other characters from previous games. Perhaps the biggest part of this new adventure is the satchel of secrets that are revealed in Lara's backstory. Lara can search through files, drawers, and shelves for useful inventory items that help her solve the riddle of each level. For those of you who liked the new inventory system in The Last Revelation, Chronicles features a newly "enhanced" inventory system that enable players a greater variety of weapons and items combinations. Players also can choose from a new sack of weapons made up of a grappling hook gun, sniper rifle, and chloroform. The standard new set of features includes new moves for Lara, such as tightrope walking, parallel bar swinging, and a stealthy hand-to-hand attack. For the record, the TR engine has been modified and upgraded each year since 1996. Using the well (read "overly")-used and original Tomb Raider engine, the one that Core created for the first Tomb Raider, the new Chronicles features several new graphic alterations and gameplay upgrades that should entice at least some die-hard adventure game enthusiasts. Every story leads to a mission, all independent of one another. Having allegedly died in a freak accident at the end of The Last Revelation, the premise of Chronicles sets up Lara's new travails with accounts from her friends and associates, each of whom has a story to tell. The fifth of the Tomb Raider series stars the slim, even bustier Lara Croft (and you thought she couldn't get any bigger) by opening up with her supposed death. Of course, the Tomb Raider series is far from over, as it will appear on PlayStation 2 and other next-gen systems, but this is definitely the last of the PlayStation versions, or at least that's what we're told. Appearing on PS, Dreamcast and PC, and due right around Thanksgiving, Chronicles starts off with the premise that Lara Croft has died and lets you re-enact some of her lesser known adventures through the memories of some long-time friends. The fifth and last of the PlayStation versions of the game, Tomb Raider Chronicles is the first game of the series that enables players to play in non-linear fashion.
